OneSky announces that Spirent has signed on to be a member of the OneSky Future of Flight program, bringing enhanced navigation performance and availability to UAS.
Reliable navigation using GPS/GNSS is essential for safe navigation, airspace management, and surveillance. Spirent’s GNSS Foresight services enable UAS operators to predict and quantify GPS performance based on precise orbital data, terrain, and 3D city models to enable BVLOS flight even in challenging suburban/urban environments. Knowing exactly when and where GPS/GNSS will meet the safety of flight requirements is essential for determining vertiport locations, flight corridors, and complying with regulatory operational requirements.
The OneSky Future of Flight program aims to help ecosystem partners like Spirent successfully navigate the challenges of integrating technology with air traffic management solutions. OneSky and Spirent will combine their technology and resources to create an API integration of Spirent’s precise GNSS forecasts with OneSky’s world-class airspace management system. The integrated technology will empower users with best-of-breed data and analytics to enhance flight safety.
Michael Tornetta, Head of Sales and Strategic Growth at OneSky, said, “The Spirent team has been solving complex navigation problems for years and are leaders in their industry segment. The ability to predict your GPS coverage at any altitude in any location will improve safety for all of us.”
“GNSS coverage is a given these days, but in challenging urban environments, that can change rapidly. UAVs must know their position at all times, and understanding GNSS coverage gaps are essential to making safe flight decisions. The Spirent team are experts in global navigation, and their Foresight product greatly enhances the operator's navigation assessment capabilities in our UTM,” added Ted Driver, Head of Analytics, OneSky.
“As UAS operations increasingly operate near buildings and terrain, operators are required to determine the impacts on GPS. Integrating that data into flight planning and operation in easy-to-understand ways is essential for the industry to scale,” said Jeremy Bennington, VP of PNT Assurance, Spirent Communications
